Lizá Ramalho

Lizá’s practice also extends to research, curating, publishing and teaching.

Lizá Défossez Ramalho co-founded R2, with Artur Rebelo in Porto, in 1998. R2’s expansive multidisciplinary practice embodies the intersection between art, material, environment and design, from printed matter to spatial interventions and installations. Ramalho & Rebelo have taken on significant commissions for a range of cultural and artistic institutions and public and commercial clients, encompassing graphic identity, wayfinding systems, web design and motion projects.

Ramalho’s practice also extends to research, curating, publishing and teaching. R2 has secured consistent international recognition for its work. Ramalho and Rebelo have received a number of international awards and honours, including the Brno Biennale Grand Prix (CZ), several premier awards from the International Society of Typographic Designers (UK) and the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (USA), and gold prize at the International Poster Triennial, Toyama (JP). Some of their original pieces are also held in international museum collections —Museum für Gestaltung (Zürich, CH), Museum of Modern Art (Toyama, JP), Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, FR).

Lizá Défossez Ramalho holds a PhD from the Faculty of  Fine Arts – University of Barcelona, with a scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal). Ramalho is an AGI member since 2007 and co-organised the AGI Congress/Open Porto with Artur Rebelo.
