The 2016 edition took place in Àrvore – an iconic arts cooperative in Porto founded in 1963.  The cooperative is housed in an eighteenth century Manor House with particularly stunning views over the Douro river and historic gardens (Jardim das Virtudes).

The tutor team of Hamish Muir, Jessica Helfand and Andrew Howard was supplemented this year with guest tutor Adrian Shaughnessy, bringing with him a vast range of experience and expertise in publishing and editorial design. We were also pleased to welcome a visit by Noreen Khawaja, professor at Yale University and author of a newly published book The Religion of Existence: Asceticism in Philosophy from Kierkegaard to Sartre, which served as a basis for a short cover design assignment in week two. The presence of the author on a cover design project is a rare an valuable opportunity for discussion and we thank Noreen for her contribution.

Once again we were pleased to receive participants from around the world whose outlooks and engagement made for yet another memorable summer school.
